NewsNorth York Defeats Patriots 8-3Date: Feb 05, 2010
Toronto, ON: The Patriots were defeated a disappointing 8-3 tonight at the MasterCard Centre by the North York Rangers. Patriots Marko Brelih, Joey Gagliese and Nick Perruccio were the goal scorers this evening. North York got off to a quick start with a goal from Austin McKay, and secured that lead with a goal only minutes later from forward Brendan Wise at the mid-way mark in the first period. Nearing the end of the first, after some very back and forth play from both teams, it was defenseman Marko Brelih who wound one past goaltender Ryan Demelo after strong attempts from forwards David Italiano and Nick Perruccio got the puck out to him. Seconds into the second period Luke Colavecchia scored his first of the game on Jay Pelletier, a nice goal scored low. Defenseman Joey Gagliese got on the scoreboard tonight with a powerplay goal off a penalty to Michael Hollander left North York shorthanded. Unfortunately for the Patriots, North York didn't intend to let the game creep back into reach and extended their lead with four more goals in the second period, from Colavecchia, Jason Kelly, Eric Desjardins and Brendan Wise, to go into the third period with a 7-2 lead for North York. Nick Perruccio scored early in the period, a goal assisted by forward Jordan Spear and defenseman Erlich Doerksen while on powerplay. Mid-period Colavecchia scored his hat trick, bringing the final score to 8-3 for the Rangers. The Patriots play its final game of the season on Sunday, February 7 at home against Markham.
